Georgie’s Path into the World of Beauty Therapy

Meet Georgie, an eager Ella Baché College student, who has a passion for creativity and hands-on work. Her desire to study beauty therapy was a natural path out and one she has found in credibly rewarding.

Life before a Studying Beauty Therapist

Before Georgie embarked on her beauty therapy course at Ella Baché College, she had just completed Year 11 in high school. Her life was typical for someone her age—balancing schoolwork, spending time with friends, and caring for her two newly adopted dogs, Lila and Lola.

Living out West, Georgie works part-time as an online shopper at Woolworths, a job that conveniently fits with her beauty therapy studies, as both commitments take up only two days of her week. This balance allows her to focus on her education while still earning an income.

Creativity and Why Ella Baché

Creativity has always been a core part of Georgie's identity. “I’m a creative person, I like working with my hands” she says. During the lockdowns, she found it particularly challenging, as her hands-on woodwork classes at school were replaced with at-home assignments involving small blocks of wood.

This was a far cry from the real workshop experience. With all her learning shifted to Zoom, it took some time to adjust. However, Georgie found solace in baking, channelling her creative energy into making cakes and pastries as a form of stress relief.

Choosing Ella Baché College

When it came time to decide on her future career, the women in Georgie’s family suggested she study at Ella Baché College. Initially hesitant to follow in the footsteps of her mother, sister, and aunty—all of whom had attended the college—Georgie quickly realized after starting her course that beauty therapy was the right path for her.

She found the beauty industry to be not only fascinating but also peaceful, a perfect fit for someone like her who enjoys working with her hands. Having attended an all-girls high school, she also appreciated the supportive and empowering environment at Ella Baché College. The decision to pursue beauty therapy felt natural and aligned with her passion.

The On-Campus Experience

One of Georgie's favourite aspects of studying on-campus is the well-structured curriculum. The course is designed to gradually build knowledge, making it easier for students to absorb and retain information. “I definitely like how everything was set out” she says.

The practical component is particularly rewarding, and Georgie enjoys both learning new techniques and being pampered during training sessions. Experiencing the role of both the beauty therapist and the client has given her valuable insights. One educator, Ms. Jodi, has made a significant impact on Georgie’s learning experience, with her engaging and informative teaching style.

Advice for Aspiring Beauty Therapists

For those considering a career in beauty therapy, Georgie's advice is simple: just go for it. Even if there's initial uncertainty, giving it a try is worth it. The beauty industry is welcoming, and the skills gained are invaluable.

She emphasizes the importance of being comfortable with client interaction, as much of the job involves building rapport. “I think you have to be comfortable with talking to people…” she says. She notes engaging in genuine conversations during treatments often leads to repeat clients, and being able to explain the benefits of each treatment adds value to the experience.

Her Go-To Beauty Product

Growing up in a family immersed in the beauty industry, Georgie was exposed to skincare and beauty products from a young age. While she didn’t work in a salon before starting her course, she spent a lot of time in one. The one product she can’t live without is EllaBaché's hyaluronic acid, which has become a staple in her skincare routine. She feels fortunate to have gained so much knowledge and insight into the industry through her family’s background.

Looking Ahead

Georgie’s favourite part of the course so far has been the opportunity to be pampered as a model during practical sessions. Learning in such an open and hands-on environment has been an amazing experience. After completing her course, Georgie’s goal is to build her own beauty business, applying everything she’s learned to create her own success.

“One of the most interesting things I’ve learned in the beauty world is that everyone has different skin types and conditions, and tailored treatments can make a big difference. Everyone’s unique.” — Georgie V.
